JK Rowling pays the price of fame
Tuesday, 24 July 2007
Children’s author JK Rowling has blasted the press for rifling through her rubbish bins on the lookout for personal information.
With the sensational success of the Harry Potter books, the writer’s public profile has sky-rocketed.
And her initial dream of leading a quiet life has been marred by an extreme media interest into her private life.
‘I imagined being a famous writer would be like being Jane Austen, being able to sit at home in the parsonage and your books would be very famous,’ she tells The Independent On Sunday.
‘I didn’t think they’d rake through my bins. I didn’t expect to be photographed on the beach through long lenses. I never dreamed it would impact my daughter’s life negatively, which it has.’
