You look a little chunkier in Hairspray than you did when we last saw you in High School Musical. Do you think you’re putting on weight?
I tried to, for the movie. By the end of it, I’d gained about 15lb. I ate lots of protein, lots of meat and shakes. I bulked up.
It really changed the way I looked for the film. I don’t know that it was necessary. But if you look at old Elvis Presley movies, there’s a sort of roundness to his face.
I wanted to get that look and it kind of worked.
We were quite worried when we read the internet rumours that you’d died. Do you know how that all came about?
My mum called me to make sure I was OK. It’s really funny to hear that you’ve died. It all comes from chat rooms.
Is it true that you and your High School co-star Vanessa Anne Hudgens have swapped rings?
Oh my gosh. Wow. You’ve got to be kidding me that you guys know that? Yeah – it’s really weird that you’ve heard about that. Exchanging rings is far easier than getting tattoos.
