Author JK Rowling is relieved that Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows is finally in the hands of the boy wizard's many fans.
'All the secrets I have been carrying around for so long will be yours, too,' she says on her website.
The book has a recommended retail price of £17.99 but supermarkets are selling it this weekend at a huge discount. Asda have priced the book at £5 and Morrisons at £4.99.
Last night JK Rowling read the first chapter, The Dark Lord Descending, to 500 competition winners at London's Natural History Museum.
She has warned readers, 'I think you'll probably cry'.
Harry and his evil nemesis Lord Voldemort face each other and JK Rowling has revealed some characters do not survive.
New York Times literary critic Michiko Kakutani says the climax is a heart-racing, bone-chilling confrontation.
'At least a half-dozen characters we have come to know die in these pages, and many others are wounded or tortured.
'Voldemort and his followers have infiltrated Hogwarts and the Ministry of Magic, creating havoc and terror in the Wizard and Muggle worlds alike, and the members of various populations — including elves, goblins and centaurs — are choosing sides.'
