Harry Potter author JK Rowling angry at US newspapers

Author is 'staggered' that respectable publications have already printed reviews

JK Rowling

JK Rowling is shocked and disappointed that US newspapers have already published plot details from Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows.

The book is not published until 21 July and Joanne says the papers have done this with 'complete disregard of the wishes of literally millions of readers'.

Scholastic, the book's US publisher, has sued online retailer DeepDiscount.com for breaking the strict embargo.

'I am incredibly grateful to all those newspapers, booksellers and others who have chosen not to attempt to spoil Harry's last adventure for fans,' Joanne tells BBC News.

The New York Times' books and theatre editor Rick Lyman says: 'It's our policy that once a book has been offered up for sale, it's fair game to be reviewed.

'We tried very, very hard to give away the absolute bare minimum of the plot.'
