Tom Chaplin: I feed off my dark side

Keane star says fame sent him bananas

Tom Chaplin

Tom Chaplin has had a well-publicised battled with booze and drugs. And though he's now winning that fight, the Keane frontman still constantly tackles his inner demons.

‘To have the exrovert quality that allows you to perform for thousands of people, you need a dark side to feed off,’ says Tom, 28.

‘A bit of fame changes the whole dynamic of your life. It sent me bananas, basically. My ego went out of control and I started steamrollering over other people’s feelings.’

But after a spell at The Priory last year, the Keane star is determined to make a success of his music career.

‘I live in fear of becoming that silver-haired bloke at the bar, droning on about how I was in a band once, knowing that I blew my main chance,’ he tells Live magazine.
