Paul Potts: I borrowed £80 from Mum to buy suit

The opera star wanted to impress judges

He’s £100k richer now, but Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts has revealed he had to borrow £80 from his mum to buy a new suit to wear on the hit ITV show.

The humble ex-mobile phone salesman, 36, wanted to impress judges Simon Cowell, 47, and Piers Morgan, 42.

They had earlier turned their noses up at the supermarket suit he performed in the first time he sang for them.

‘I felt smart in my £35 Tesco suit,’ he writes in his diary. 'But Simon Cowell rolled his eyes as I walked on stage.’
