Pete Doherty avoids jail

He pleads guilty to possessing drugs and is ordered to go into rehab

Pete Doherty

Pete Doherty has avoided jail despite pleading guilty to possessing Class A drugs.

The Babyshambles singer finally turned up at court over two hours late - after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He admitted possessing crack cocaine and heroin as well as Class C drugs cannabis and ketamine - and pleaded guilty to two driving offences.

Pete, 28, avoided jail after the overseeing judge deferred sentencing him on the condition that he goes to rehab.

But if he fails to attend the detox before his sentencing on 7 August, he will face a jail term.

The singer says he’ll clean up his act this time. ‘I have got no choice, have I?’ he tells thelondonpaper.

‘It's rehab or jail. I was going to rehab anyway to be honest with you - this is just a little push.’
