Jesse Metcalfe wants to be a singer

Actor would like to make records

Jesse Metcalfe just wants to sing.

"I'm trying to do music, actually," the former Desperate Housewives actor, 28, told PEOPLE at a MAC Viva Glam party in London on Wednesday.

"I've just started writing and trying to develop my sound a little bit, but it will be as a solo artist," he added. "I sing and play guitar."

The John Tucker Must Die star said he is in the UK to host some parties and meet with record producers.

Metcalfe, who spent a brief stint in rehab in March and split with his girlfriend, Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle, in April, has been enjoying the nightlife this week, hitting the London hot spot Boujis and clubs in the seaside town of Bournemouth.

At the MAC party, Metcalfe posed with rocker Steven Tyler and chatted with hostess Dita von Teese, who earlier performed her burlesque routine complete with a gyrating giant diamante lipstick. "She is incredible, amazing," Metcalfe said.
