Dame Shirl cheats death at Glastonbury Festival
Monday, 25 June 2007
Shirley Bassey cheated death last night when her helicopter developed a fault.
The pilot had to make an emergency landing after leaving Glastonbury in heavy rain and wind.
The helicopter swooped low over homes but finally managed to touch down at 8pm in the grounds of Collingwood College in Camberley, Surrey.
Fortunately, 70-year-old Dame Shirley was unhurt and wowed locals as she emerged from the chopper in Wellington boots.
'We are so sorry to have bothered you,' she announced. 'May I please use someone's toilet? And a cup of tea would go down a treat.'
Locals quickly came to the diva's aid.
'You could tell Dame Shirley had been through a terrible ordeal but she maintained her dignity,' one onlooker tells the Daily Mirror.
Last night the faulty helicopter was still stranded in the grounds of Collingwood College.
