Soccer ace wed childhood sweetheart in a tiny church

Man United midfielder Michael Carrick and bride Lisa Roughead exchanged vows at the weekend in a leafy Leicestershire hamlet.

The teenage sweethearts chose 13th century St Peter's church in Wyndmondham for the ceremony – 10 years after first dating.

Michae and Lisa, both 25, met at school in Tyneside, and have been together since they shared classes as 15-year-olds.

Their low-key wedding cost £250,000 – a mere fraction of team-mate Gary Neville’s nuptials.

Pilates teacher Lisa picked an elegant Christian Lacroix gown for her special day.

After the ceremony, the wedding party headed to Stapleford Park Hotel to toast the happy couple.

Michael had hoped his wedding present to Lisa – a £4 million Cheshire mansion – would be ready on time. But the seven-bedroom pad, boasting a library, cinema and indoor pool, is still under construction.

And so the final whistle blows on 2007's WAG wedding bonanza. Roll on summer 2008!
