Angelina Jolie: Grief made me thin

Her mother's death took its toll

Angelina Jolie has revealed losing her mum made her lose weight.

The 33-year-old actress was consumed with grief when Marcheline Bertrand lost her life to cancer in March.

'It's fine for people to say too thin is not a good thin,' she says. 'But before calling somebody "too thin" they should consider what that person has gone through recently.

'They don't consider that breastfeeding can affect your weight or grief can make your body change.'

And the A Mighty Heart star says she was mentally as well as physically affected.

'I am not an irrational or emotional person,' she tells Sunday magazine. 'I am only emotional when big things happen to me, like my mother's death.

'It was a very difficult time for me. In one way, it made me sad, but at the same time I was happy because she'd been in a lot of pain for so long.

'I had to work my way through my grief and make some sense of it.'
