Gary Neville & Emma Hadfield marry at Manchester cathedral

Will David Beckham make it to the church in time..?

Man United's Gary Neville is holding out for David Beckham to be his best man when he makes Emma Hadfield his bride.

When: 16 June.

Where: Manchester Cathedral for the ceremony and a marquee reception in the 3½-acre grounds of the Manchester United skipper’s new £12 million pad nearby.

Guest list: After playing best man to David Beckham at his wedding in 1999, Gary, 32, is hoping that the Real Madrid star’s schedule will allow him to return the honour. Gary’s footballer brother Phil, 30, is on standby if he can’t.

The dress: A one-off design by Vera Wang is the hot favourite for shy holistic therapy student Emma, 24, who shuns the limelight.

Secrets: Reports claim that Gary offered £100,000 to James Blunt to perform at the reception, but he turned it down. Instead, football-loving opera tenor Jon Christos will take to the stage at the bash, which will be adorned in Man Utd’s red and white colours. For their honeymoon, the couple favour the Maltese island of Gozo, where they have a £700,000 home.

How it all started: Gary forked out a monstrous £170,000 on a four-carat engagement ring back in 2005 and proposed to his girlfriend of 18 months while holidaying in Malta. The couple will reside in their brand new 12-bedroom pad, built over an entire farming hamlet and boasting a golf course, stables, cinema, pool and interior designs by Kelly Hoppen.

Cost: £1 million.
