Ex-Wham! star says it's an amazing honour
Sunday, 10 June 2007
Last night George Michael became the first musician to put on a show at the new Wembley Stadium.
It's seven years since the last concert at the old venue and the singer was thrilled to start a new era. Stars including Geri Halliwell and Claire Sweeney were in the crowd to cheer him on.
'I have felt a huge association with Wembley from when I was a child,' George, 43, explained. His European 25 Live 2007 tour also includes shows in Norwich, Manchester, Glasgow and Plymouth.
On Friday magistrates in Brent, north London sentenced the star to 100 hours of community service and disqualified him from driving for two years for driving while unfit.
George was found slumped behind the wheel of his Mercedes in October 2006.
