Ex-Fleet Street editor star says Americans love him
Saturday, 9 June 2007
TV judge Piers Morgan reckons his fame in the States is greater than Posh and Becks'.
The former tabloid editor, now a judge on America's Got Talent alongside Simon Cowell, believes the American public have fallen head over heels for him.
'In Hollywood, I'm a lot more famous than the Beckhams,' he boasts. 'And I definitely get better tables in smart restaurants than I used to because I'm more socially acceptable.'
Piers, 42, says he hams up his English accent - because Americans love his rounded vowels.
'I do tend to posh it up a bit in the States,' he tells the Daily Mail Weekend. 'They see me as a James Bond. I rather like being recognised.
'In fact, I'm the perfect celebrity. I don't mind being harassed and groped.'
