Bruce Jones is axed from Coronation Street

Les Battersby gets the boot from hit soap

Corrie star Bruce Jones was sacked yesterday.

The actor, who plays Les Batterbsy on the hit soap, had been on suspension since March for bitching about his co-stars and leaking storylines during a booze bender, but had been expected to return.

At a meeting yesterday morning, Bruce, 54, was told by Coronation Street bosses that they never wanted him back.

'We feel we've reached the end of the road with storylines for Les,' said the show's producer Steve Frost. 'We wish Bruce all the best for the future.'

Immediately after getting the news, the actor went on holiday with his family.

'I've had some exciting offers and look forward to the future,' he told The Sun.
