Marilyn Manson: My marriage destroyed me

Rocker says ex-wife Dita tried too hard to change him

Marilyn Manson claims his marriage to Dita Von Teese left him a broken man.

The 38-year-old goth rocker says his relationship with the burlesque dancer - who he tied the knot with in 2005 - fell apart because Dita wanted him to a different kind of man.

'She said she tolerated my lifestyle because she hoped I would change,' he tells US Spin magazine. 'She threatened to leave if I didn't. I was sleeping on the couch in my own home.

'I was no longer supposed to be a rock star. I was someone who had to be apologised for. I wasn't prepared to be alone. I came out of this naked, a featherless bird. I was completely destroyed. I had no soul left.'

But Marilyn has praised new love 19-year-old actress Evan Rachel Wood for helping him recover from his unhappy marriage.

'Evan is nothing less than a muse,' says Marilyn. 'It might sound strange, but this made me want to live.'
