Is Paris Hilton's pushy mum to blame for her downfall?

Paris Hilton may be just days away from being banged up in jail for 23 days, but the finger of blame for her downward spiral is being pointed at a rather surprising suspect: her mum.

Now has learnt that Kathy Hilton, 48, is a frustrated singer and bit-part actress who ruthlessly pushed 26-year-old Paris to fame.

Kathy was obsessed with celebrity during her own small-time acting career. So after marrying and having a family with Rick Hilton, heir to the £1 billion Hilton Hotel fortune, she set herself a mission to groom Paris and younger sister Nicky, 23, for the stardom she herself had never achieved.

‘Kathy was absolutely pushy, arrogant, condescending and presumptuous – and Paris picked that up from her,’ says Peggy Cusack Yakovlev, a former personal assistant to Rick’s uncle Eric Hilton.

‘The spotlight always had to be on Kathy. It was always: “Do you know who I am?”’

After Paris was handed down her jail sentence earlier this month, it was her mum who grabbed the spotlight outside the court. ‘All this nonsense is pathetic and disgusting – a complete waste of taxpayers’ money,’ she loyally fumed.

‘This is a joke.’
