Actor relies on Buddhism to get him through hard times
Saturday, 12 May 2007
When actor Orlando Bloom feels frazzled, he turns to Buddhism to sort himself out.
The 30-year-old's faith was particularly useful when he was filming The Lord Of The Rings trilogogy.
All three movies were shot over an 18-month period in New Zealand, which, at times, left Orlando feeling lonely and insecure.
So he turned to the faith he learnt about at A-level.
'I had to do a huge exhibition for my sculpture exam and I was worried about it,' he tells Weekend magazine.
'But then a friend called David started talking about the philosophies of Buddhism and the power of chanting; I'd sit there listening to him and then go and do these incredible paintings.
'Since then, chanting and meditation have become a hugely important part of my life.
'Some people go to church, others do yoga. For me, it's Buddhism.'
