Chris Tarrant was arrested on Sunday night after a fellow diner in a Nottingham curry restaurant said he threw a spoon at him.
The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host, 60, was back at his hotel when the boys in blue arrived to escort him to the station.
'I was absolutely amazed when the police turned up,' Chris tells The Sun. 'I thought it was a spoof and Jeremy Beadle was behind it.
'I'm not an international terrorist. There was no agro, no temper, no confrontation. There was no malice, no assault. The whole thing is an utter nonsense. I did lob something and maybe I shouldn't have done, but it was just a bit of horseplay.'
Chris's spokesman Brian MacLaurin says the quiz host had taken part in a bit of banter with a neighbouring table before jokingly throwing a spoon on his way to the buffet.
Police said: 'Shortly after 10pm a man claimed he was injured in an incident. A 60-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assualt and bailed pending inquiries.'
