Robert Downey Jr: My marriage saved my life

New love put a stop to drug-fuelled antics

Troubled actor Robert Downey Jr reckons that second wife Susan is responsible for turning his life around.

'I was lucky, I found someone who was much smarter than me,' he tells Live magazine. 'I like the way marriage has changed me. It's helped me grow up.

'Doesn't mean I've checked my nuts in at the door, but it's made me more formidable.'

Robert, 42, married film producer Susan Levin, in 2005 and turned his back on an extremely 'crazy' and colourful past.

In 1996 he was arrested for driving his Porsche down LA's Sunset Strip completely naked while throwing 'imaginary rats' out the window.

Four years later, the Ally McBeal star was caught in a hotel room with three bags of cocaine and a Wonder Woman costume.

Fortunately, rehab sorted him out and he's been clean since 2001.

Robert stars in upcoming thriller Zodiac out on 18 May.
