Scary Spice: I'm taking Eddie Murphy to court

Melanie Brown will force star to take a paternity test

Melanie Brown

Melanie Brown, who welcomed her second daughter, Angel Iris Murphy Brown, last month, says she's taking ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy to court to force him to take a paternity test.

"He's not doing a DNA test and he's not signing the birth certificate," Brown told PEOPLE Tuesday at a party for the U.S. launch of the BOOTS beauty brand in Hollywood. "So it's going to have to go to court so he can be forced to do it, which is strange since he was the one asking for it."

Brown, 31, who has an 8-year-old daughter, Phoenix, with her ex-husband, has long maintained that Murphy, 46, is her new baby's father, although he told a Dutch TV show in December: "I don't know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test."

Murphy also has not contacted Brown since Angel was born, Brown said: "He hasn't seen his daughter. My people have contacted his people and they just had no response to anything."

Although Brown refers to Murphy as "a great guy," she added: "I just think no woman should have to go through that and no baby should have to go through that. Be responsible. What else can you say?"

When reached for comment by PEOPLE, Murphy's rep, Arnold Robinson, said: "We do not comment on Mr. Murphy's personal life."

Nevertheless, Brown is reveling in new motherhood. "It's amazing. I love being a mom," she told PEOPLE. "I love kids, period. I'd have another one tomorrow if I could."

She's been keeping in shape by doing cardio and eating healthy foods such as salmon and broccoli, and said: "I feel great! I'm happy. I was a happy pregnant woman and now I'm a happy new mom. Life goes on, and I have two beautiful children."

Two things that may be in her future, she said, include a Spice Girls reunion – if the other girls are up to it – and taking Angel back to England to meet her family once the paternity test is done.
