Rod Stewart will splash his cash on wedding

Rocker reportedly sets the date for marriage

Rod Stewart is planning to marry fiancée Penny Lancaster in a lavish £1million June wedding.

The rocker is intending to spend a small fortune on the couple's big day which is set to take place at the exclusive Italian Riviera Portofino resort in June.

'They have hired a venue in the town and he is going to charter a couple of private jets to get his guests there,' a source tells The Sun. 'It is going to cost a small fortune but he wants it to be a memorable day.'

It's thought the nuptials will take place at the Hotel Splendido, the place where Richard Burton proposed for the first time to screen beauty Elizabeth Taylor.

Rod, 62, and Penny, 36, have reportedly invited a host of celebrities, including Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish, Sir Mick Jagger and Scottish comedian Billy Connolly.

Paris Hilton - who is friends with Rod's daughter Kimberley - is also expected to attend.
