Mel C: There was a lot of bullying in the Spice Girls

Sporty talks about the bad old days...and how she now thinks tattoos are 'odd'

Melanie C

Mel C admits that while the Spice Girls were topping the charts and smiling for the cameras, there was a lot of unpleasantness going on behind the scenes.

'Girls can be terrible bullies, worse than blokes,' she admits. 'The Spice Girls were crazy. There was a lot of bullying and bitching.

'Your insecurities can be exploited by others to bolster their self-esteem.'

Mel doesn't reveal who were the worst offenders but says that they've all said sorry now.

Once dubbed Sumo Spice, 33-year-old Mel – who has 10 tattoos – reckons she won't be having more ink pumped under her skin.

'Tattoos are a ridiculous thing to do to yourself,' she tells the Observer. 'It's not quite self-harm, but now I see it's odd to mark yourself forever.

'They look nice if you're toned and tanned and fabulous. But when I put on weight they looked awful. I haven't had one since 2000.'
