Design is a guardian angel engulfed in flames

What exactly is David Beckham trying to say with his new tattoo?

The dense design on his right arm, which he revealed to the world at the weekend as he cheered on Real Madrid from the benches, is a guardian angel engulfed in flames.

The artwork, which took six hours to complete, is reported to include words from a Roman poem, which translate as: 'Let them hate as long as they fear'.

Seems Becks, 31, wants to send a message to people who no longer believe in his football skills.

'David has always used tattoos to express his thoughts,' a source says. 'He believes his tattoos can ward off negativity and help him battle adversity.'
