Matt Lucas: I fancied Shakin' Stevens

Pop pin-up helped Little Britain star realise he was gay

Comedian Matt Lucas says it was his boyhood love of pop star Shakin' Stevens that helped him realise he was gay.

The 33-year-old Little Britain star, who married boyfriend Kevin McGee last year, reckons that he first started asking questions about his sexuality when he looked at a poster of the singer.

'The first time I'd an inkling I was gay was looking at that picture when I was seven,' he told Attitude magazine.

'I said to my friend Michael, "Don't you think sometimes men are handsome?" I didn't think much of it at the time - I thought both girls and boys were attractive.

'I'm sure the thoughts weren't sexual, but there was something there.'
