Michael Jackson arrives in Japan

Fans pay nearly £2,000 each to meet him

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson has jetted into Tokyo airport to meet some of his adoring fans - at a price.

On Thursday, at a 'platinum VIP party', 48-year-old Michael will greet individuals who have paid up to US$3,500 (£1,800) to spend a minute in his company.

It is the first time the singer has visited the country since being cleared of child molestation charges in 2005.

The BBC reports that Michael will also attend an art competition and have brunch with the winners.

He last appeared on stage at the World Music Awards in London in November but mumbled only a few lines of We Are The World.
