Dame Helen Mirren: 'I went commando at the Oscars'

Actress admits she didn't need undies

When she picked up her Best Actress Oscar for The Queen, no one suspected that Dame Helen might be flying free underneath her gorgeous gown.

But the 61-year-old star revealed that was exactly what she did when she appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show.

When describing her beautiful, customised Christian Lacroix frock, she explained: 'It was all made for me so I didn't have to have any underwear.'

And, just to illustrate the point, she grasped her breasts and continued: 'It fitted me like two angels' hands. I cried when I put it on. It is a work of art.'

Hel definitely warranted an award - anyone who doesn't have to wear a bra at her age deserves a medal!
