Helen Mirren: I went commando

Actress wore no undies to the Oscars

Oscar winner Helen Mirren has admitted she went without undies to the star-studded ceremony.

The actress, 61, who picked up the Best Actress gong on Sunday night, yesterday appeared on the Oprah Winfrey chat show. She told the excited audience that her stunning Christian LaCroix Oscars gown was so snug she was almost nude underneath it.

'It was all made for me so I didn't have to wear any underwear,' she said. 'It fitted me like two angels' hands. I cried when I put it on - it's a work of art.'

Helen jetted back to the UK last night and was given a standing ovation by fellow airport passengers.

'I've just had the most incredible welcome to my country,' she said. 'It's very very sweet.'
