Helen Mirren 'a cert' for an Oscar

Star of The Queen goes to Giorgio Armani party before the big night

The 79th Academy Awards in Los Angeles are about to kick off and preparations at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood are being finalised.

Dame Helen Mirren, 61 - who attended a Giorgio Armani party last night – is hotly tipped to win the best actress award for her role in The Queen.

In fact, bookies are so sure she'll win that they've already paid out on bets placed on the star.

'Normally we only pay out on certainties like a team winning the Premiership when they are ten to 12 points up at the end of the season,' William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said.

'If she loses, we will have to pay out again on the actress who wins, so it would be very costly for us. But if she doesn't win, we'll have been robbed and so will she."
