Posh and Becks's long-distance Valentine's Day

Separated by an ocean, Victoria and David Beckham share 14 February by phone

While most couples like to spend February 14 together, David and Victoria Beckham were apart. Victoria was in Los Angeles while David was at home in Madrid.

"They had to make do with spending Valentine's Day on the phone," a friend of the couple tells PEOPLE. "It was an intercontinental day of love."

Posh and Becks are expected to move to the U.S. in July, when David, 31, will join the L.A. Galaxy team.

"Victoria was in New York City with her two sons last weekend, but she arrived in L.A. yesterday to finalize both the house-hunting and school for the boys," the source tells PEOPLE. "She will be there about four days, then goes home to Madrid."

The Beckhams have three boys: Brooklyn, seven; Romeo, four; and Cruz, nearly two.

"She still is undecided on a few houses in L.A.," adds the pal. "And she is also doing a bit more fashion work while she is in town."

But Victoria clearly had romance on her mind: She posted a list of suggested Valentine's Day gifts on her Web site, dvbstyle.com, with possibilities including "A personalized iPod or iPod shuffle loaded up with her favorite songs in red! ... Intimately David Beckham Massage oil ... A new vacuum cleaner!"
