Jim Carrey: Valentine's Day 'is going to be good'

Jim and Jenny are giving love another shot

Hollywood funny couple Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy made a splash on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of his new psychological thriller The Number 23 on Tuesday.

Carrey held McCarthy's hand, wrapped his arm around her, and gazed at her, while photographers snapped pictures of the duo. Although the two have been dating since last summer, they had yet to appear on the red carpet together.

Asked about plans for their first Valentine's Day together, Carrey said coyly, "It's going to be good!"

Before the premiere Carrey told PEOPLE: "I feel really free, wonderful."

Carrey, 45, and McCarthy, 34, have both said recently they don't plane to get married – but are giving love another shot.

"I feel that our relationship happened at a time that I am more ready than I have ever been in my life to have a relationship," Carrey said recently.

The couple skipped The Number 23 afterparty, held at downtown L.A.'s Edison Bar, but McCarthy waited patiently for almost 30 minutes while Carrey signed autographs and took pictures with fans after the screening.

"Is Jenny here?" Carrey said. "I've got to get my girl out."

Carrey's costar, Virginia Madsen, tells PEOPLE of the two, "They're just a great couple. They're both really great people. They go well together."
