Beautiful South split

Pop group go their separate ways

Beautiful South

Pop group The Beautiful South have announced they've split up.

Known for hits such as Song For Whoever and Perfect 10, they joked that the break-up was down to 'musical similarities'.

They were formed in 1989 by ex-Housemartins Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway.

Fellow ex-bandmate Norman Cook went on to become dance act Fatboy Slim - and husband of Zoe Ball.

The Hull-based band's 1994 greatest hits album Carry On Up The Charts sold 1.8million copies and is one of the top 75 best-sellers. But they had only one No 1 single - A Little Time in 1990.

A statement said: 'The band thank everyone for their 19 wonderful years in music.'
