Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet score Oscar nods

Titanic stars may both be Academy winners

Titanic costars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet will be reunited at the Academy Awards this year – they each received Oscar nods, he for Best Actor (in Blood Diamond), she for Best Actress (in Little Children), it was announced Tuesday morning. And in an upset, Dreamgirls, which led the pack with eight nominations, was not up for Best Picture.

The nominees for Best Picture were the dramas Babel, The Departed, The Queen, and Letters from Iwo Jima and the comedy Little Miss Sunshine. (See the list of nominees.)

In addition to Winslet, Best Actress nods went to Penelope Cruz for Volver, Judi Dench for Notes on a Scandal, Helen Mirren for The Queen and Meryl Streep for The Devil Wears Prada.

Joining DiCaprio in the Best Actor category were Ryan Gosling for Half Nelson, Peter O'Toole for Venus, Will Smith for The Pursuit of Happyness and Forest Whitaker for The Last King of Scotland.

The nominees for Best Supporting Actress include two actresses from Babel: Adriana Barraza and Rinko Kikuchi. They are joined by Cate Blanchett for Notes on a Scandal, Abigail Breslin for Little Miss Sunshine and Golden Globe winner Jennifer Hudson for Dreamgirls. All are first time nominees except Blanchett, who has been nominated three times – twice as Best Supporting Actress, which she won in 2004 for The Aviator.

Best Supporting Actor nods went to Alan Arkin for Little Miss Sunshine, Jackie Earle Haley for Little Children, Djimon Hounsou for Blood Diamond, Eddie Murphy for Dreamgirls and, in one of the biggest surprises, Mark Wahlberg for The Departed.

Martin Scorsese, who has yet to win an Oscar, earned his eighth nomination – and his sixth in the category of Best Director, for The Departed. Also nominated: Alejandro González Iñárritu for Babel, Clint Eastwood for Letters From Iwo Jima, Stephen Frears for The Queen and Paul Greengrass for United 93.
