Is pop star's move for tax reasons?
Thursday, 18 January 2007
James Blunt has waved goodbye to Britain and is going to make his home on the Swiss slopes.
The 32-year-old singer, who's a massive ski fan, is planning to build a chalet at the Verbier resort which is a favourite with celebrities such as Diana Ross.
But it's thought that his move could be influenced by more than just the white stuff.
As a Swiss resident, the former army officer will have to be considerably less in taxes - especially as rich foreigners can strike a 'personalised' deal for yearly tax payment.
'James Blunt is now a resident of the commune of Bagnes, where Verbier is situated,' tourist chief Patrick Messeiller tells the Daily Mirror. 'He is very welcome here. He has been a guest for many years.'
