Broke Whitney Houston sells dresses to pay off debts

Singer flogs frocks to settle £76,000 storage bill

Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston is being forced to sell off her personal possessions to pay off her debts.

The 43-year-old singer, who has been in rehab battling drug addiction and has recently filed for divorce from Bobby Brown, is having to say goodbye to designer dresses, music equipment and even her undies because she failed to pay the £76,000 bill to keep them in storage.

Last November she almost lost her £3million estate in New Jersey because she owed tens of thousands of dollars in back taxes.

Storage company Speed of Sound now has permission to auction off her old touring gear because her company, Nippy Inc, stopped paying the bills in 2005.

But any money the sale makes after meeting the £76,000 debt will go straight to Whitney.

And it seems she's not too bothered about the loss of her glamorous outfits - including numbers by Dolce & Gabbana and Giorgio Armani.

'Many artists get rid of the old stage equipment and costuming they don't need anymore,' her spokeswoman Nancy Seltzer says. 'That is what is happening.'
