Gabby Logan defects to BBC

Sports presenter quits ITV for a three-year deal with the Beeb

Gabby Logan has left ITV and signed a three-year deal with the BBC.

The sports presenter, 33, will front TV coverage of all live sporting events and will host a news programme starting on BBC1 next May.

'I'm thrilled to be joining the BBC at such an exciting time,' she says. 'The opportunity of working on the sports news programme was one I couldn't resist.'

Gabby joined ITV in 1998 and covered events such as the 2003 Rugby World Cup and Euro 2004. She was sidelined by her bosses at ITV Sport during last summer's World Cup where she was relegated from presenter to reporter.

She has spoken of her demotion saying: 'I interviewed David Beckham, but I didn't see a single game. It dented my confidence and made me question my abilities. If you've got ambition and you want to do well, it's obviously disappointing.'
