Jamelia taken to hospital

Singer collapses on set of Madrid music show

Jamelia flew back to Britain on Friday after collapsing in Spain. The singer doubled up in pain while filming a TV show in Madrid and told her manager she felt as if ‘a bus had hit her stomach’.

The 25-year-old mum of two had micro surgery for an umbilical hernia at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, West London, reports The Mail On Sunday.

Umbilical hernias appear as a bulge or swelling in the belly-button area and can be created by the pull of the abdominal muscles during pregnancy.

They do not necessarily require surgery but extreme pain occurs if the circulation to a section of the intestine (or other part of the body) is cut off by increased compression or constriction.

Jamelia is due to perform at the Royal Variety Performance next week and hopes to be fit enough to appear.
