Elton John has sky-high film ambitions

But fails in get part in next Superman movie

Elton John

Sir Elton John won't be starring in the next Superman film after being outbid at an auction.

The musician, 59, bid £40,000 for a part in the movie at a fund-raising lunch hosted by tycoon Robert Earle yesterday.

But he was topped by Topshop tycoon Sir Philip Green who paid £50,000 for the cameo role to go to his wife Tina.

Further lots available included a romantic dinner with Paris Hilton, which fetched a whopping £30,000.

The auction, held at London's exclusive Fifty club, raised £500,000 for the Old Vic theatre.

Other stars present included Superman Returns actor Kevin Spacey, who is the artistic director of the Old Vic, supermodel Elle Macpherson and Sting.

Superman: The Man Of Steel will see Brandon Routh reprise his role as the superhero, while Kevin Spacey is expected to return as villain Lex Luthor.

The movie is due for release in the summer of 2009.
