With Suri in tow, the newlyweds hop on a pal's private jet to the Maldives

The day after their wedding in Italy, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, with baby Suri in tow, hopped a private jet and traveled 4,500 miles to the Maldives, a remote archipelago of coral islands in the Indian Ocean.

"Mr. and Mrs. Cruise were smiling so much," says a source who spotted the honeymooners at the Maldives airport, adding that they brought about 40 pieces of luggage and lots of toys. "They looked very happy."

The jet that carried the newlyweds was owned by one of their wedding guests, Australian media mogul James Packer.

A Cruise friend for several years, Packer was an extra in the actor's 2003 drama The Last Samurai; Cruise and Holmes flew to Australia to attend the memorial service of Packer's billionaire father, Kerry, in February.

Situated on the equator southwest of Sri Lanka, the Maldives consist of more than 1190 small islands. Star Jones and Al Reynolds visited the country following their 2004 wedding.

The tiny nation was devastated by the 2004 tsunami but has rebuilt much of its tourist infrastructure since then.
