Sir Elton John: Ban all religion...it's all anti-gay

Singer reckons all faiths promote hatred of homosexuals

elton

Sir Elton John has called for a total ban on all religions.

The pop legend thinks faiths of all kinds should be outlawed because they encourage gay hatred.

He says: 'From my point of view, I would ban religion completely. Organised religion doesn't seem to work. It turns people into really hateful lemmings...'

The 59-year-old - who exchanged vows with long-term boyfriend David Furnish in a civil partnership last year - singles out Eastern Europe as a hotbed of homophobia.

Elton tells Observer Music Monthly magazine: 'I think religion has always tried to turn hatred towards gay people. In countries such as Poland, Latvia and Russia there is a huge anti-gay movement and a lot of it is started by the church.'

He adds: 'The world is near escalating to World War III, and where are the leaders of each religion? Why aren't they coming together? I asked this after 9/11 and people thought I was nuts.'
