Mick Jagger rocks on despite father's death

Star performs on stage hours after dad dies from pneumonia

Mick Jagger

Mick Jagger performed to a sell-out crowd in Las Vegas at the weekend, despite learning that his father Joe had died from pneumonia.

The former PE teacher died in hospital on Saturday, two weeks after injuring himself in a fall at his Surrey home. He was 93.

Sir Mick - who has said that his dad was the greatest influence in his life - flew back from the US leg of the Rolling Stones tour on Friday evening to be at his father's bedside.

He decided to return to America to perform on Saturday after he was told his father's condition was improving. However, a few hours after Sir Mick left, Mr Jagger rapidly deteriorated.

Sir Mick learned of his father's death at 3pm American time on Saturday as he was preparing for a concert. He went on stage at the MGM Grand five hours later.

A friend said: 'He knew his father would have wanted the show to go on, as it were. it sounds a terrible cliche, but that is what Joe would have wanted. Mick will be returning to the UK for a private funeral in the next few days.'
