Keira Knightley won't cross Golden Globes picket line

George Clooney, Johnny Depp and Denzel Washington may also miss the ceremony over screenwriters’ strike

Keira Knightley won’t be attending this Sunday’s Golden Globes if it means crossing a picket line.

A strike by the Writers Guild Of America has halted production on US TV shows and films since 5 November.

Action was called for after the organisation failed to reach agreement with studios over web and DVD royalty payments for their members.

Several stars – including Keira, whose mum Sharman Macdonald is a playwright – have shown their support for the striking writers.

The actress's spokesperson insists Keira, 22, won’t cross a picket line if the screenwriters stage a protest outside the Globes venue.

The Bend It Like Beckham star is up for a Best Actress gong for her role in epic drama Atonement.

George Clooney, Denzel Washington and Johnny Depp – who are all nominated in the Best Actor category – may also miss the annual bash.

If the strike continues, it is expected that celebrities may also snub the Oscars on 24 February.
