Ewan McGregor turned down James Bond

Actor thought role would typecast him

Ewan McGregor

Ewan McGregor said no to the role of James Bond. He was offered the part when casting began but the 35-year-old Scot declined.

Casino Royale director Martin Campbell, who also directed GoldenEye, told The Sunday Times: 'I think he got another job or decided he didn't want it.'

The part went to Daniel Craig, despite the Campbell not being 'totally convinced' the 38-year-old was a charismatic as previous Bonds, including Sir Sean Connery.

Daniel Craig, who has reportedly signed a three film deal, was branded 'too soft' by 007 fans, after he admitted he was scared of heights and got injured in his first fight scene.

He was also blasted for not being able to master the gears in Bond's Aston Martin and demanding an automatic instead.

Casino Royale is released worldwide on 17 November.
