Shane Richie quit EastEnders after Alfie was booted out of the Vic

Actor angry at way Alfie lost his beloved pub

Former EastEnders star Shane Richie has said he quit the soap because he was angry at the way his character Alfie was treated.

The 42-year-old actor, who left the show at Christmas, was worried about his future in the show after Alfie Moon was kicked out of the Queen Vic - and he decided to jump before he was pushed.

He said: 'I thought Alfie deserved to be at The Vic. I thought maybe his bubble had burst.'

Shane will now star in new ITV comedy-drama What We Did On Our Holiday on 8 October. He plays a loving son of a man suffering from Parkinson's disease.

He said: 'I'm scared lots of people are going to tune in to see Alfie Moon and be disappointed.'
