She was brilliant in the Bridget Jones movies, but Renée Zellweger – who stars in new release Miss Potter – says she felt out of her depth when she first came to the UK.
The American star, 37, struggled to come to terms with the British way of life while filming in London.
'I didn't realise how different the culture was,' she says. 'We don't speak the same language at all. We use words in a different way and culturally the English are very different.
'I always felt very brash, forthright and rude when I was there. My friends might call me honest, but in England I felt completely inappropriate and gross... just grotesque a lot of the time. A loud-mouthed Texas girl.'
But fortunately for Renée she felt a lot more at home while filming her latest movie about children's author Beatrix Potter.
'I don't think of it in terms of being a foreign country anymore,' she tells the Daily Mirror. 'It's kind of disappointing to see an American influence in places that weren't there when I first visited.'Click here to see what's new in our photo gallery>>
