Daniel Craig says he's hard enough to play 007

Actor defies critics by honing his Bond skills

Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig has hit back at critics who say he's too soft to play James Bond by reaching record speeds in the spy’s Aston Martin.

The actor, 38, was humiliated by reports he could not cope with gears in the supercar and had to be given an automatic, but the ex-forklift driver brags: 'I got it to 170 just the other day.'

Bond fans had feared the Layer Cake star wasn’t tough enough after he lost two teeth in his first fight scene, had to wear a lifejacket and admitted his fear of heights.

However, former Bond Pierce Brosnan, can't wait to see Casino Royale in November. Pierce, 53, says: 'Daniel Craig is going to do a fantastic job.'
