Chris Tarrant says his affair cost him his marriage

Chris and Ingrid split after he admits playing away

After a week of rumours Chris Tarrant has announced he will split from his wife Ingrid.

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? presenter had been banned from the family home in Surrey after rumours he had kissed another woman at a local bar.

And this weekend a Sunday paper alleged Chris had an affair with teacher Fiona McKechnie.

In a statement the 59-year-old says: 'I am deeply sorry for the hurt I have caused to my loyal wife and wonderful children, all of whom I adore.

'I have only myself to blame for the breakdown of my marriage.

'While the liason which has led to all of this was not significant in my life I will always regret the hurt and pain that I have caused to those whom I love.'

Chris and Ingrid, 51, have been married for 15 years and have two children together, Samantha, 18, and Toby, 14, as well as two children each from previous marriages.

A spokesman for the couple has said Ingrid was 'hysterical' at the realisation her marriage was over. He stated: 'They are both very upset. She is absolutely in hysterics. The children are really upset and they want some peace and they have asked for it.'
