The Grey's Anatomy actress says she'll be forever grateful

Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo, 36, says seeing Madonna interviewed on TV when she was a teenager had a huge impact on her life.
The actress reveals the Queen of Pop – who was five when her mother lost her battle with breast cancer – helped her deal with her feelings about losing own mum from an accidental overdose of painkillers when she was just four years old.
Madonna 'is the only person I've ever approached,' says Ellen in an interview with You magazine. 'She lost her mother too and came on MTV when I was 13 saying it was OK to be sad.
'Our family had handled my mother's death in a traditional, never-speak-of-her-again kind of way. It was only when I heard Madonna that I thought, "That's it." I've never really grieved for my mother.
'She gave me permission to do that and I wanted her to know how much it had helped me. She's just fantastic.'
