Mel Gibson says sorry for drink driving

Lethal Weapon star Mel apologises for drink driving after Friday's arrest

Mel Gibson

Actor Mel Gibson has apologised for drink driving after he was arrested on Friday.

Gibson, 50, was caught speeding at 80mph in a 50mph zone in Malibu in the early hours of the morning.

He was breathalysed and found to be over the limit. According to reports he was threatening towards the arresting officers and made anti-Semitic comments.

The Lethal Weapon star was later released on bail.

In a statement Mel said: 'I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested and said things that I do not believe to be true and are despicable.

'The arresting officer was just doing their job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.

'I disgraced myself and my family with my behaviour and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse.'
