New England manager Steve McClaran is set to ban wives and girlfriends from future tournaments...
Monday, 10 July 2006
For many, watching the WAGs' antics was the only thing that made the World Cup bearable.
But under a new ruling from Sven's replacement Steve McClaren it looks like the wives and girlfriends will have to hang up their party shoes and outsize bags for good.
McClaren is understood to want an end to the WAGs phenomenon and would prefer to see players' loved ones keeping a much lower profile during future events.
Throughout the World Cup pictures of the women, including Wayne Rooney's fiancee Coleen McLoughlin, falling out of bars, shopping and sunbathing made the news as much as the players themselves.
Football chiefs were said to be embarassed by the behaviour of the majority of the teams' partners and argued that their late night partying was a distraction for the players.
